Joseph Stalin's Dacha (Summer Residence)

Stalin’s dacha is a genuine summer home of the former mighty Soviet leader built in 1936. He used to come here quite often, and the atmosphere of the modest interior of the time throws some light on Joseph Stalin’s personality.

For many Russians he was anathema. Under Stalin people spent years in labor camp and his name is inextricably linked with the mass purges. Many people died in the time of the Stalinist repressions.

But Stalin had a real hold on the masses. His prestige among ordinary people was great. They admired the man who held Soviet society together in his grip.

Still there are people who feel nostalgia for Stalin, his strong power. They forget that things were bad then, too, and they forget the terrible price that they paid.

dacha02While in Sochi, people take a chance to visit Stalin’s dacha hidden among lush vegetation of one of the health centers’ huge park – "Zelenaya Roscha" (Green Wood).

The program ends with a fourchette - visitors are offered Stalin’s favorite red wine along with cheese and fruit.

Also there’s a chance to stay in one of the refurbished deluxe rooms of this romantic building.
